CEP810 Major Assignment #2: Personal Learning Plan

The personal learning plan is just as it sounds -- an opportunity for you to set some specific, concrete and realistic professional goals for a) the 2012 summer program in Rouen, b) the next school year and c) for the next five years of your career.

You have made the decision to begin this Master’s program.

In your personal learning plan, please outline the following:
1) Why did you choose to begin a Master’s in Educational Technology? Address any intrinsic and extrinsic factors that contributed to this decision.
2) What do you hope to learn this summer? What specific goal(s) do you plan to achieve? What strategies will you use to achieve them?
3) As you think ahead to the upcoming school year, what specific goals do you have for the integration of technology in your teaching/profesional role? How will you achieve them?
4) How will your professional practice be different in five years, after you’ve completed your Master’s in Educational Technology? What long-range changes do you expect/hope to see in yourself as a technology integrator and leader?
5) How will you use the Internet to create and sustain a personal learning network that informs your pedagogical practice in long term?
6) In five years, how will your career have grown? What do you want to be doing? What steps will you be taking this summer to put yourself on the path to achieving these goals?

Questions 1 and 2 need to be finished by the end of the day (6 pm) on July 1, 2011. These questions ask you to reflect on your immediate goals.
The remaining questions (3, 4, 5, 6) should be submitted by Tuesday, July 19. These questions will be informed by the work you do during this four-week program. You are encouraged to draft up answers early in the program (even bullet points would be good) and revise them at the end of the program to reflect your most current thinking.

You need to post your answers -- in any digital format -- to your webspace by the deadlines. This means you may choose to write text-based “journal” entries or you may choose to create something else -- a video, a glog, a screencast, a slideshow, a digital story, a podcast -- that would most effectively communicate your responses to these prompts. One technology is NOT better than another. Rather, we encourage you to select the technological tool that will communicate, most effectively, the central ideas that you most want to communicate.

This assignment will be graded Complete/Incomplete. A complete personal learning plan will have addressed all of the questions. Complete assignments include thoughtful responses to each prompt. Complete assignments will also demonstrate serious engagement with the planning process; it will be clear that you have invested considerable thought into your short-term and long-term career goals.
